Chrysler Neon Cup 1998: 65% done
Forum thread at RaceSimCentral
Back in 97-98 I raced in the Norwegian Chrysler Neon Cup. At first, I wasn’t too thrilled about these cars. They looked weird, and were american. But just a few laps into the first practice session, I was in love. Ok, they are a bit dull, but the handling was amazing. These cars were just perfect.
I still don’t know if someone at Chrysler actually knew what they were doing, or if it was just pure luck, but somehow they managed to make a very light car (only 1080kg) with a smooth 2l engine that produced almost 140bhp in cup trim (Mopar ECU and large exhaust). Everyting about this car makes it a perfect platform for a single make racing series.
10 years later, I somehow ended up back in another Neon. This time as a cheap daily driver that could handle the occational trackday. And once again I was reminded that allthough a rather crappy roadcar, these cars are just made to be driven hard. However, I cannot afford to abuse my daily driver, so I started fiddeling with a model in zmodeler. The initial idea was to just make a simple model for my own pleasure, but soon the project became a bit more ambitious. I want to make as many of the 30+ cars that raced in the 1998 season as possible!
Status as I write this is that the model and interior are done, as well as templates for all the skinning and a couple of finished skins. Cosmo is assigned to assist with the ini and I am working on a high quality cockpit for the inside driving view.
Regards,
Fredrik Sørlie

I’ve been into racing neons for a while. I just got a beast to start on, but as for this. I am super excited. I’ve driven so many neons, but only owned two. I’d love for this to get finished.
